There are a lot of variables to keep in mind when you move. Your mattress shouldn’t be one of them. If you don’t have enough room in your moving truck or want to do the bulk of moving on your own, there’s a good chance you’ll be strapping your mattress to the top of your car. Below are some thorough, safe and helpful tips for successfully securing your mattress to the roof of your car.
SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED
ROLL DOWN YOUR WINDOWS
SET UP YOUR ROPE AND MATTRESS
Lay one long piece of rope along the top of your car.
Put your mattress in a thick plastic mattress bag, and then place it on top of your car. Take your other two pieces of rope and string them through both sets of windows (front and back; do not run through the driver’s side window – this way you can open and close the driver’s side freely).
SECURE YOUR MATTRESS
Run the ropes width wise over the mattress and tie them firmly.
Take your long lengthwise piece of rope and weave it in and out of both of the width wise pieces and tie it firmly on top of the mattress.
Reinforce if necessary using heavy packing tape or bungee cords.
DRIVE SLOW AND SAFELY
Make sure that you are well aware of the laws and fines (if any) regarding driving with a mattress on top of your car.
